Mammals

No mammals are known to be restricted to "limestone" habitats, although many inhabit such sreas.

On the "limestone barrens" of our Great Northern Peninsula, it is often startling to see Moose (Alces alces), which sometimes wander out onto the most barren areas of "limestone pavement"!

Foxes (Vulpes vulpes) also frequent the barrens, feeding primarily on meadow voles (Microtus pennsylvanicus) and the eggs and chicks of ground-nesting birds.
