Frank A. Gilbert was professor and head of the botany department at Marshall University, West Virginia, from 1927 to 1942.
After WWII, he worked as a botanical researcher in Ohio. As well, he assisted Merritt Lyndon Fernald with the 8th Edition of "Gray's Manual of Botany".
