Stewardship Agreements


Species at risk stewardship agreements focus on protecting habitats that harbour SPECIES AT RISK, by engaging local residents as responsible stewards of their own environment.

Newfoundland and Labrador Species at Risk Stewardship Program

The Newfoundland and Labrador Wildlife Division's "Species at Risk Stewardship Program" is responsible for administering species at risk stewardship agreements within the Province. For more details, see [Word file].

The drafting and signing of species at risk stewardship agreements follows a formal process. For more details see [Word file].


"Limestone Barrens" Species at Risk Stewardship Agreement Documents

Four species at risk stewardship agreements have been signed, to date, between the Provincial Government and local entities within our "limestone barrens" regions. These local entities include:

[1] Town of Flower's Cove [PDF file]
[2] Strait's Elementary [PDF file] (as implementors of the Flower's Cove agreement) [this school closed 2010; students now attend Canon Richards Memorial Academy, Flowers Cove]
[3] Town of Port au Choix [PDF file]
[4] St. Theresa's Elementary [PDF file] (as implementors of the Port au Choix agreement) [this school closed 2010; students now attend French Shore Academy, Port Saunders]


The Limestone Barrens Habitat Stewardship Program, along with the SIGNATORY SCHOOLS, act together to implement the intent of the stewardship agreements.
