Between 1864 and 1870 (and perhaps thereafter), the Reverend Butler, a pastor of the Congregational Church, collected plants from
Caribou Island (near Bonne-Esperence), Quebéc, and from Forteau Bay, and
L'Anse-Amour on the "Labrador Straits".
His L'Anse-Amour collections were the first to detect the rich "limestone flora" occurring at that particular location
([Butler] 1870; Stearns 1883).
[About the same time, a "Miss Macfarlane" also collected plants in the same area, apparently passing them on
to Reverend Butler.]
